How to Style A Cozy and Chic Black Sweater Dress for Winter!
Tips for Choosing a Black Sweater Dress
Y’all may know how I love a good sweater dress (like this one). Honestly, who wouldn’t love wearing something that is basically chic PJs? So, I wanted to share how to style a black sweater dress for winter. But, just because sweater dresses are comfy, doesn’t mean it is easy to find the right one. You always have to pick a fabric that will hold up. Sweaters made of material that is less than ideal will pick and ball up, which is never chic. Also, I always prefer a thicker fabric and looser fit. Why? Because I don’t want to suck in all the time. Another thing to consider is the shape and length of the dress. Do you want something cozy? Opt for a longer dress. Want something a little sleeker? Go for a shorter length!
All About the Accessories
When you are wearing something as simple as a black dress, you always want your accessories to pop. Adding a chunky scarf is always perfect for chilly winter days. I really love this buffalo plaid option because it literally matches everything. Also, pick one or two colors and stick to them. Obviously I selected red and white for this outfit. Red is one of my favorite colors this season (Vogue and Elle’s, too), and these earrings are on heavy rotation in my wardrobe. Some other fun red options are these shoes for a fancier look or this neck scarf paired with a moto jacket for an edgier look.
How to Style a Black Sweater Dress for Winter
Alright, you’ve got the recipe – the dress and the accessories. Now, how do you style it? Layer it. Try out something fun and new. Normally, I wear my scarves wrapped around my neck. But I decided to drape this one so it was more like a poncho and I loved the outcome. Sometimes you just have to play around to find that unique piece to your look. Wearing items in unexpected ways always makes an outfit feel special. I guess the only thing I’m missing from this outfit is my little buddy aka Lincoln. He is always attached at my hip these days, and this outfit really is an easy throw on!
