As soon as I saw this navy polka dot dress (and the price – on sale for $36!!) I knew I had to buy it ASAP. The off the shoulder style with the elastic waist (YES!) is a classic shape. And the navy with white polka dots is a closet essential. This was actually the first dress I wore out in public after Lincoln was born. We went out to dinner with friends and I missed Lincoln every. single. second. But it was nice to get out and feel normal again.
Something I love about this navy polka dot dress is the length. When you click on the link to the dress, you will see that it is labeled as a “tall brand.” However, I find it to be a completely normal length dress. It falls perfectly at my knees, and I’m only 5’5″. And because the waist is elastic (seriously, YES!), you can adjust the waist to suit you. But this brings me to something I always have to look for when shopping for dresses: the length. Personally, I am not able to wear any dresses below 35 inches long. Anything shorter and my bum will be showing whenever the wind blows or if I bend over. Not chic.
As I’ve gotten older, short dresses are not really a good look on me. Also, I always prefer to dress more on the conservative side because it makes me feel more comfortable. There is always a time and a place to show some skin, and I definitely do, just not on a regular basis! So, when it comes to picking out the right length dress for you, follow these rules. First, do what is comfortable for YOU. If you want to wear a shorter dress and you feel comfortable in it, DO IT! Second, test out different lengths. You really have to wear a dress around to know if you’re comfortable in it. Finally, once you know your preferred dress length, remember it. A lot of retailers will have dress and skirt length in their descriptions, but not all. Having this info is essential to my online shopping! Finding the right dress length for you isn’t hard, but it is always something to have in mind when you’re shopping online.
