When we first brought Lincoln home, we were so focused on taking care of him that we didn’t even think about taking newborn family photos. But as the weeks went on and we settled in a bit, I realized we needed to capture this precious time. I also missed blogging, and wanted to schedule a photo shoot to start doing some post-baby content!
As you all know, I am not one for cheesy photo shoots and prefer something simple and natural, like my maternity photos. Pictures of babies in baskets are not my thing. I wanted to capture our family in our home, because that is our life. Well, it is a very pretty depiction of our life. I don’t walk around with make up on and my hair done if i’m at home! Also, this dress (last seen here) was a struggle to zip up three weeks after giving birth, but with a little help from Neil I was able to fit into it!
I love looking at these newborn family photos. They bring a smile to my face every time I look at them, and I will cherish them forever. Also, fortunately for me, my husband Neil had six weeks of paternity leave. It made all the difference in the world, and we were able to learn to be a family. It is a huge transition for any couple, and we had the space and time to work through it. Also, I was able to actually take showers every day for six weeks.
We are now going on week two of Neil being back to work and it is HARD. Anyone who says or portrays otherwise must be some kind of magical super mom. I am learning to be a mom on my own (most of the day) and it is a hard job. There are so many opinions from others, information on the internet, and advice from well-meaning family and friends, but you just have to follow your instincts. Of course, it is only week seven, so I am still learning. I hope to process all of my (many, many, many) feelings for a blog post soon! But if you’re a mom and you feel like you are struggling – you are NOT alone! I’ve had so many moms reach out to me since having Lincoln, and I am so thankful for them and their support.
