Since moving into our new home, I’ve been scouring the internet for inspiration. I’ve always admired a clean and minimal room. And most of the time, that involves a coffee table that isn’t too bulky or dark. After searching for the perfect piece, I decided I wanted a white coffee table with a gold base. However, I couldn’t find one at a reasonable price that I actually liked! So, I settled on an easy DIY project. With the help of my husband, I made an $86 coffee table look like a designer piece!
First, I searched Amazon for a white coffee table and found this one. I loved the lacquer top, but wasn’t feeling the silver base. So, I purchased some sand paper, primer, and gold spray paint and got to work!
First, I assembled the base of the white coffee table, which was incredibly simple. I left off the top and sanded the metal base with fine sand paper. Sanding the metal allows the primer to stick just a little better. After you sand the metal, it is time for the primer.
Because I was pregnant during this DIY project, my husband insisted on handling the painting. We did two coats of primer just to be safe. Allow each coat to dry at least one hour or more. Finally, we did two coats of the gold spray paint. Again, allow each coat to dry thoroughly, this time at least 8 hours. On your last coat, I’d let it dry overnight so the paint cures and stays put!
Let me know if you try this yourself! It could easily work on other furniture items like side tables, or any other metal. I’m really pleased with the results of this simple project! Not only did I save hundreds of dollars, but I got to do a fun little project with my husband.
