Charleston, SC is probably my favorite city in the south to visit. There is history, beauty, and delicious food around every corner, and there is always a new experience to find! When thinking about a quick weekend trip with my favorite gal, Kristen, we immediately knew that Charleston would be our destination. It is a quick 3 hours from Charlotte, and it’s such an easy drive. Fortunately for us, we were able to take the brand new Toyota Rav4 for our adventure, which made our journey comfy, stylish, and so much better!
So I will confess that I’ve had the same car since I was 16!! My current car is…”vintage” as I like to call it, and doesn’t have any bells or whistles. When we got into the Toyota Rav4, I immediately had major car envy because of all the high-tech features, like the keyless entry, the push start, and the automatic trunk. I can’t tell you how EASY it was to just get into the car while holding our purses and to get all of our luggage into the trunk. Believe me, we had a lot of luggage! Once we were all packed in, we were ready to hit the road!
Kristen was the driver for our trip (fortunately for us because I am not the best highway driver…), so I was the official navigator. Except the Rav4’s exceptional navigation system kind of took my job, but I was able to easily plug in our destination, so that counts. The directions showed up on the dashboard in front of Kristen as well as on the media console, which was so convenient. Kristen was able to use cruise control for a set speed (and no tickets!). Something I loved was that the Rav4 has a Lane Departure Alert so if we went outside of the lines, it would alert us so we could correct. I wish this was around when I was learning to drive because it made our trip even safer. We also were treated to satellite radio, which I love for trips because nothing is worse than driving between radio towers and getting cracking music!
a quintessential Charleston row home – I’m obsessed with the ivy growing all over the front!

my outfit matched the car…so I basically had to capture it!
Once we arrived, we made our way to some of our favorite destinations in Charleston: Rainbow Row, the Historic Market, and The Battery. I was tasked with driving around town, which I am much better at than highway driving! Because we aren’t very familiar with getting around Charleston, we were able to put our destination in the navigation system and it took us there with zero issues! I was so impressed with the smooth handling of the Rav4 and really enjoyed driving it around town. (Is my husband reading this? New car, please!)
We heard so much about Sugar bakery before our trip that we had to go! It was off the beaten path a bit, but we were able to find it no problem (thanks, nav system!). I had to parallel park – which I can totally do, BTW – and it was a breeze with the rear view cameras! The cupcakes were to die for, and I only wish I had bought about 17 more.
looking stylish at Battery Park, which has a gorgeous waterfront view
classic King Street shopping! the cobblestone roads are beautiful.
We ended our day exploring the downtown area and shops. Clearly I was excited! The weather was simply gorgeous while we were visiting, and the extended sunroof let us drive around while enjoying the crisp breeze and beautiful sunshine. Charleston really is the perfect city, and we can’t wait to go back!
