Recently I was searching for cute baskets and stumbled upon a basket with pom poms! It was adorable, but the price was a little too steep for me, especially for an item that wasn’t really necessary. So I decided to make my own! It was so easy and pretty fun.
First, you will need a pom-pom maker and some yarn. I got this pom-pom maker from amazon – it comes with two sizes so you can pick exactly what you want. I ended up using the bigger size for my basket. At first I was a bit confused, but the package had easy step-by-step directions that made it simple.
First, pick your favorite color yarn. I picked gray because it matches my living room – nice and neutral! Wrap the yard around the first half of the pom-pom maker. I like to do a few layers so the pom will be thick. Repeat for the second half. Next, close the pom maker so it is back in a circle shape and cut along the center. Tie a string of yarn around the center and pull tight! Tie a knot and open each side of the pom maker slowly and your pom will appear!
Next, take a sewing kit and attach the poms to the basket in whatever way you want! Originally I was going to cover the whole thing in poms, but once I began making the poms my plans changed! I liked a more simple look and also didn’t feel like making 30 poms! But do whatever your heart desires!
The basket now resides in my living room (which has horrible lighting!) and it is holding my many blankets very stylishly! Let me know if you make your own! I’d love to see a photo!
