Happy Tidy Tuesday! I know I’ve talked a lot about what you SHOULD be doing when de-cluttering your home, but sometimes it is always helpful to hear what you should NOT be doing when organizing. So today I’m talking about the 3 things NOT to do when organizing. I’m sure most of this is common sense (or just not shocking!), but a few simple tips can go a long way.
1. Don’t buy your organization supplies first
How can you go purchase supplies when you don’t even know what you need? If you’re like me, all of those boxes, crates, etc. are appealing (aka crack), but you must control yourself. Go through your things first and make a list of what you need – sizes, shapes, how many. You can always add more later!
2. Don’t leave anything until “tomorrow”
The point of organizing is to get it done – finish it! If your goal is to clean out your office, clean out your office today! Take out the trash, send your boxes off to the donation center, and feel that sweet relief when your space is fresh and clean.
3. Don’t forget to keep it up
What is worse than feeling accomplished about making your space perfect and organized, only to have to repeat the process a month or two later? Once you have your system in place, keep it up. Don’t push off your cleaning tasks until another day. I promise a few minutes every day is much better than hours later on.
