This week on Polished Closets has been all about spring, from black and white to bright florals, I have been showcasing my favorite trends. But when you treat yourself to new items, you have to make room for them in your closet. So it’s that time again – time for spring cleaning. Some of you may hate it, but personally, I love it. Getting rid of items you no longer use will clear not only your space but also you mind so you can have a fresh start! Just follow these three easy steps:
- Did you wear it last season? If the answer is “no” to this question, then put it your donate pile. Simple as that. Move on to step two.
- Do you still like it? Now this can get tricky. My rule is this: if you are unsure, just go ahead and put it in your donate pile. If you keep it, I guarantee you will be unsure every time you pick it up and you won’t end up wearing it.
- Donate! This is the best part of cleaning out your closet. Giving back to your local community creates many opportunities for the people you are helping. Maybe that blazer you donated will be picked up by a local gal going to an important interview! Here in Charlotte, my favorite places to donate my gently-used clothing are Good Will (there are SO many convenient drop boxes around our city) and Dress for Success. If you haven’t already, check out Dress for Success, a non-profit that promotes economic independence for women by providing professional attire, a network of support, and career development tools to help women thrive. Now that is something I can get behind 100%!
