It’s wedding season!! I know I have at least 6 weddings to attend this spring and summer, which is totally insane. So it begs the question, what should you wear to a wedding? Well it depends. What type of wedding is it – black tie? beach? semi-formal? Knowing exactly what type of wedding it is will allow you to pick out the most appropriate look for the occasion. Some rules I tend to follow when dressing for a wedding are:
- Don’t wear white. or cream. or ivory. or any variation of white. Just don’t do it.
- Wear something that makes you feel comfortable. Most likely, you will spend most of the event dancing, so make sure your outfit can sustain through the night.
- Make sure your outfit reflects your own personal style, but don’t overdo it. No one wants to stand up the bride!
Below are some of my favorite picks for wedding season! I hope these give you some ideas and inspiration for a busy wedding season.
Black Tie Wedding
For a black tie wedding, I would recommend wearing something long and elegant. But beware, it can be easy to look too “prom-y,” so make sure your dress isn’t covered in rhinestones and sparkly embellishments. If you want to add a little bling, use your accessories! A great statement necklace or earrings will add just the right touch of elegance.
Dressing for beach weddings can be tricky, but the ceremony is always beautiful, so it is more than worth it. For a beach wedding, I would recommend wearing a maxi dress or a high-low dress. These weddings tend to be a bit more casual, so you can wear a fun, colorful, and breezy dress without standing out in a bad way.
Semi Formal Wedding
Semi formal weddings give you many options for how you want to dress. You can wear a cocktail dress, a midi dress, or even a long dress. I think the key to dressing for a semi formal wedding is to look sophisticated and polished by wearing a dress that fits you well and makes you feel comfortable.
